Illustration is a skill I picked up during my time studying interior design. There are an infinite number of approaches. On Tuesday I may begin with a sharp light pencil and 20% french gray prisma color. On Wednesday, the watercolor pencils call my name. Who knows by Thursday, I just might pop into Adobe Illustrator and click around to my heart’s delight. My favorite illustrations often develop through a volley between digital and hand drawn.

During the summer of 2020, I teamed up with Author Macy Gilson to illustrate an inclusive children’s book titled “Kindness is Golden” where Mrs. Clarke’s third grade class embarks upon a fun-filled fieldtrip to their local aquarium. The story’s overarching message is to remind kids what it means to be kind. Our differences make us unique, and thinking outside of the box to include everyone makes way for the fullest of adventures. Creating the illustrations for this book was a true joy, and was a great opportunity to refine my workflow between physical and digital art.
